The town of Ladner is part of the Municipality of Delta and is part of Metro Vancouver. The town was created along the Fraser River banks as a fishing village. Located on Highway 17, it lies in the extreme southwest corner of the British Columbia mainland, 27 km south of Vancouver and 27 km west of White Rock and the Peace Arch border crossing. Tsawwassen is the closest community and this is where the ferry terminal is located for service to the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island.
The name "Ladner" comes from the Ladner brothers: Thomas and William. They arrived in the region during 1868 and began fishing and farming operations. The location enabled the region to develop as a center for these operations. Access across the river to Richmond was allowed by the ferry at Captain's Cove and the George Massey Tunnel brought a permanent connection in the year 1959...
